Historic Old Colorado City Information

Historic Old Colorado City Information
Old Colorado City, which was formerly known as the Colorado City, is a national historic district in the city of Colorado Springs. This historic town was founded on May 22, 1859, which is located in the west side if Colorado City.

This three-block historic district of restored brick buildings once served as Colorado's original capital back in 1861, and the center of early settlement in the Pikes Peak region. Designated a National Historic District in 1982, restoration efforts have resulted in a physical and cultural renaissance of the area.

Today the Old Colorado City has become both a shopping and dinning magnet which attracts tourists from all over the world to experience the amalgamation of present culture and past history. The district is jammed with 113 shops, galleries and restaurants that all have the refreshing distinction of not being chains.

The place is also significantly famous for its events and festivals which sprinkle the annual calendar and are a major draw for Old Colorado City. In the warm months (June-Oct), the 24th Street Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday from 7am-1pm, offering fresh (local!) produce, salsas, jerky, and those amazing macaroons.
The events include
  • Easter Egg Hunt
  • Art Walk
  • Good Times Car Show
  • Taste of OCC
  • Giant Pumpkins
