The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the only and one-of-its-kind mountain zoo in the United States. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is located in southwest Colorado Springs on the side of Cheyenne Mountain. Spread in an area of nearly 150 acres of stunning mountain terrain this zoo offers varied species of animal kingdom of more than 750 exotic animals including more than 30 endangered species in its vicinity. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoological Society was founded in 1926 by philanthropist Spencer Penrose. In 1938, Mr. Penrose incorporated the Zoo as a non-profit public trust for the people of Colorado Springs.

Inside the Zoo: The African Rift Valley is probably the most popular part of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and rightly so. This is where you get to hand-feed the giraffes; they are gentle with children, waiting patiently for their treat. Another great activity is viewing the mountain lions. A Snow Leopard and Amur Tiger also grace the mountainside. The zoos primates section offers you to get nose-to-nose with this intelligent apes. The other animals inside the zoo are Hippos, Wolves, Boars, Birds, and Tapirs etc.
